A Roman Shakuntala

Kalidasa’s play comes to Rome this week as an authentic Kutiyattam performance.  Kutiyattam: Il Riconoscimento di Sakuntala is a product of the Kerala-based Natana Kairali group which aims to promote traditional Indian performing arts.  Kutiyattam, a Malayalam art, is the only surviving form of Sanskrit theatre.  The  play has been performed to great acclaim earlier in both India and Europe.  It will be staged in three parts from November 13th to 15th at 8:30pm and then all in one go on November 16th starting at 2:30pm.
